Closing 2009. A new Year, New Decade and New Era begins with 2010

Wow! The last day of 2009! What a great year this has been!

At the time of writing countries such as New Zealand and Australia have already entered 2010!

Today is the end of a year, a decade, and an era. Tonight, a new year, a new decade, a new era and a new season begins.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to give a proper review of 2009 or the last decade, or even to make any predictions for the new year and decade. All I will say is that once 2010 kicks in, unbelievable changes will happen at unbelievable paces.

I remember that 10 years a go, we were just losing bulky analogue mobile phones to embrace heavy digital handsets with monochrome screens. I used to struggle to find space on my desk after the bulky computer monitor took up all the space, and the desktop then sat beneath the monitor. Internet connection was a mere 56kbps.

Fast forward to 2009, we hold the power of the Internet in our hands. We can do video calls, take pictures (color), send text and multimedia messages and browse the internet at well over 10mbps from hand-held devices than can fit in the palm of our hands.

I am one of those people that judge our technological advancements by the innovations in mobile technology. After all, mobile phones will dictate the future in a lot of ways. Internet surfing will be completely different from what it is today in a few years time, thanks to mobile technology.

Businesses had to wake up to the idea of doing business on the Internet (ebusiness) or at least having an Internet presence. Going forward, businesses will have to grasp and embrace the concept of social networking and mobile browsing.

As for the domain industry, I don’t know how it will pan out. Lots of changes are already slated for 2010. However, I believe the domain name industry will have to decisively take care of a few problems before it can progress. It has to clean up its practices, most importantly, its image and reputation.

But, saying that, the domain industry needs to be properly defined. Domain parking seems to be on the decline. The question is, can there be a domain industry without domain parking? How will domain parking evolve in the next 10 years?

Will mobile browsing kill the need for a domain name? Will there be a new Internet? Will improvement and further widespread usage of mobile browsers spell the end of the domain parking, AND the domain industry?

There are just too many questions. We all just have to be proactive and stand ready to be flexible to adapt to the new realities coming our way.

Nonetheless, there are some that believe that the world will end in 2012. As a Christian, I do believe that we are in the end of days. The signs are all around. But as they say, plan as if you will live forever, live as if there is no tomorrow.

I believe though, that for people who are proactive, hardworking and smart, 2010 and beyond will be very prosperous. There are loads of opportunities out there. I will surely waste no time in grabbing as many as I can!!

So, let me thank everyone for a great 2009 here at eBusinessDomains.com. I wish for you and your family a fantastic and prosperous 2010.

Happy New Year!!!

Bye Bye Pretty Lady… Thanks for the Domain Deals

Filed under: Domain Industry News, Domain Marketplaces — Tags: — Kevin Jackson @ 7:42 am

We really don’t know if the pretty woman on our eBusinessDomains.com homepage did us any favours or not. Perhaps she helped us to secure some domain sales, or she did a better job at distracting our clients.

Well, regardless or what she did, our relationship is about to come to an end. We will be replacing her by the end of the week with a more appropriate flash presentation.

We will also be launching the eBusinessDomains.com Forum on Friday. We will be making more announcements regarding this soon.

We are getting there…

How Will Domains Perform in 2009?

Filed under: Domain Aftermarket — Tags: — Kevin Jackson @ 11:03 pm

This year was a trying year for many economies around the world. Some big economies, notably members of the G7 have already gone into recession.

As 2008 draws to a close, and we prepare to welcome 2009, it is time to started thinking about how the domain industry will do in 2009.

In every situation there are pessimists and optimists. I am very optimistic about 2009. It will be the year of opportunities.

I can see more domain blogs coming online, more domainers developing their domains, and more domainers building brands.

Geo domains will take off like crazy. This will be seen in increased registration, aftermarket sales, and development. More domainers will depend less on PPC revenue, and start building ebusinesses based on local advertising revenues.

Web designers and developers who can efficiently build mini-sites at economical costs to domainers will flourish. However, the mini-site phenomena may be short-lived when domainers realise that simply building mini-sites does not mean automatic riches.

Domain negotiations
Domainers will continue to suffer at the mercies of unscrupulous registrars and parking service providers. There will be increased scams, frauds, and malicious activities aimed especially at newbies. The “experts” will continue to misdirect those who desperately seek information while they drain the newbies of their cash.

Domains in my opinion will continue to sell. However, more domainers will inevitably have to focus on quality, and not quantity. There could be an exodus of domainers dropping rubbish domains.

Domain values will increase. As people realise the importance and benefits of branding, people will start seeking brandable ebusiness domains, and this will increase demand, and subsequently prices.

Domain auctions will become the preferred method of domain acquisition, as the market price of a domain name will be set by the forces of supply and demand.

Domain Auction

Three of our domains will be auctioned off at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. live domain name auction at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott in New York City on September 25th 2008.

Here is our list:
Displace.com
Menaces.com
PropertyRates.com

Bids may be placed either in person (with paid admission to the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference) or online using SnapNames.com’s secure live auction software.

The list of domains to be auctioned is not yet finalised, and it is believed that approximately 250 of the 2,100 domains on the list will make it to the live auction.

Based on the recent statistics, approximately 5% of the domains will sell, which works out to be about 105 domains. There will be five separate auctions at the event, which could result in either far less sales, or much lower transaction amounts.

It will be very interesting to see the outcome of all the domain auctions.

To read more about this auction event, visit the official site at:
