Two-word Domains More Popular Than Ever
Kevin Jackson September 18, 2008 11

Published domain industry sales data reveals that there is increasing demand for domains consisting of two to three words or phrases.

One-word/dictionary domain prices have gone through the roof, due to the forces of supply and demand. With more wealthy investors now realising that the domain industry has more potential than Wall Street, owners of one-word domains don’t really have problems finding buyers.

This means that the average investor inevitably will have to invest in other types of premium domains. The spotlight is now on two-word domains. The sales data for last week shows that at least 5 two-word domains were sold for 5-figure sums, and a three-word domain sold for $118,440.

Suchmaschinenoptimierung.de (“Search engine optimisation” in German) – $118,440
AdSales.com – $25,100
NanoSensor.com – $16,920
TurtlePond.com – $13,750
NorthBeachRentals.com – $12,250
CaseSearch.com – $12,000

The popularity of two-word domains is also very evident in the number of domain auctions now listing them.

I believe this trend will continue and I’m actually banking on it. Thanks for pointing it out.

I think Turtle Pond is actually the name of a place, in New York (state?). The domain is currently being forwarded to turtlepondpublications.com.

Don’t you think turtles are lovely creatures? :-)

I have worked in national and worldwide
advertising as a Producer. I have over 6,000 domains. Some one words, mostly 2 word, and a few 3 word. All in most popular keywords, ALL GENERICS. Because of my experience in advertising, I knew this was the most important way to go. With newspapers going out of business, and magazines ads in trouble internet advertising is the trend and here to stay!! My portfolio is for sale. If investors are interested, you can email me at: lraent@juno.com Please serious inquiries only.

Good post. Got me to thinking about my domains at http://www.DomainNesteggs.com. I counted 10 one words, 378 two words, 280 three words, and 60 or so four words or more. To me – two words (& three word domains)are more precise and meet the consumer’s mind more along the buying cycle than one word domains – so I am bullish on my generic emerging technology domains in robotics, nanotech, biotech, virtual reality, etc…

Great post. There are lots of affordable two word domains out there. Many are dropping each day. The market is healthy in this space and will likely improve over time.
