America Votes. Who Will Domainers Choose

Filed under: Domain Industry News, General — Tags: , , — Kevin Jackson @ 11:17 am

On November 4th Americans will go to the polls to elect a new President. This presidential election will come in the midst of an economic downturn and credit crunch, which will filter down to every industry and affect just about every single American.

Due to globalisation, the American economy has a knock-on effect on almost all the other economies around the world. So while America votes, the rest of the world will be watching nervously.

As a real estate investor I have already experienced the effects of the fallout of the American housing market, which had wide-ranging effects on the UK property markets. It has become extremely difficult to obtain new mortgages for property investments. House prices in the UK fell at a record rate during the year to the end of September, losing 13.3% of their value. This is the steepest fall in house prices in 25 years.

All day today, the news media such the BBC were broadcasting doom and gloom regarding the financial markets. The British government today had to bailout yet another 3 more banks costing taxpayers some £37bn. European ministers are frantically trying to put together a package that will match the $700bn bailout in the US.

We are in very serious times. The next American President will have to be one with sound economic credentials, not a warlord.

I have watched all the debates so far, despite having to sit up and wait till 2AM here in the UK and eventually go to bed at about 4AM when they are finished. I am not American, so I cannot vote, but I am quite keen to figure out who will be the better candidate to govern America, and indirectly the world economy.

So far, John McCain seems like just another extension of George Bush, with nothing new being brought to the table.

Barack Obama seems like the change that the Americans really need, or the kind of change that could inspire a new era of economic developments.

As a domainer, I am keen to know that the next president will have the right policies that will help to stimulate the growth and expansion of the domain industry. There are rumours that John McCain has never even sent an email in his life.

I am counting the hundreds of thousands of pounds that I have already lost in the property market. I don’t want to count the same losses in the domain industry.

Who would you vote for?

Care to take the time to explain why you feel this way?

You viewpoint may have some validity to them but it is important that you show WHY you believe something as opposed to just making sweeping generalizations.

    Thanks for the article.

    Hi Troy,

I have watched election campaign and debates over the past few months. The only thing that McCain seem to have up his sleeves is his experience with war.

The Iraq war has already cost the American taxpayers over $500bn. The war is not yet won, and the end is not in sight.

America needs to be safe, and the safety of the world depends on the safety of America, but there are much bigger problems than the wars right now.

Barack Obama seems more assertive when it comes on to his plans for the economy. In the last debate, when McCain gave a round-the-block response to an economic question, Obama was quite clear and precise as to how he would go about fixing the economy, and what he would prioritise.

I cannot list and detail all the points here, as my original comment was a general one, taking the entire election campaign process into consideration.
